Case of the Month August 2018 - ABC

Our case of the month for August involves a combination treatment called ABC. A is for alignment. Teeth straightening initially will not only give a greater aesthetic appearance but allow for further cosmetic treatments with a minimally invasive approach. B is for bleaching. Whitening your teeth can make a huge difference to your smile and self confidence. C is for cosmetic bonding. Teeth can be enhanced with bonding to the existing tooth structure rather than cutting away healthy enamel for veneers for example. Here is the initial smile for our patient. There is crowding of the teeth where the right lateral tooth is hidden from view, uneven edges and discolouration.

Initially, we straightened both the upper and lower front teeth using the Social 6 lingual brace. This brace is placed behind the teeth and hence is totally invisible. It is the only 'invisible' brace.

After straightening and whitening. After straightening and whitening.

Now the lateral tooth is visible and the teeth are much whiter. Phillips ZOOM LED whitening was used in combination with a take home kit. The space was finally closed and then cosmetic bonding was used to even the edges.

The entire treatment was completely NON INVASIVE. No drilling of healthy tooth, no needles, no pain and well under 6 months. After treatment, retention is essential. Retention is for LIFE. We advise fixed wire retainers and night time removable retainers. You will have to replace these retainers over the years due to natural wear and tear, so it is important to budget for this. If you would like to transform your smile in time for Christmas, now is the time to start. Contact us: info@progressivedentistry.co.uk t 0207 7311162 Treatment completed by Dr Nissit Patel. Composite Bonding vs. Porcelain Veneers: Which is Right for Your Smile?

To answer this question, we really need to differentiate the two treatments as they are two different treatment entirely. Composite bonding is an additive process. In simple terms, we carefully sculpt composite resin over the teeth in question. This can be used to treat chipped, fractured, uneven and gappy teeth. Composite can also be used to replace old fillings on front ( or back) teeth. The great advantage of bonding includes:1. Treatment is completed in one visit; an instant smile transformation! 2. Min… CONTINUE READING

Social 6 lingual brace, whitening and bonding. The truly invisible brace

One of our favourite treatments for cosmetic teeth straightening is the Social 6 lingual brace. This brace is the truly invisible brace as it is placed on the inside of the teeth. Even though lingual braces have been around for many decades, there is little awareness of the system as the treatment in the past has been kept within the realm of specialist orthodontists and the costs have been incredibly high compared to conventional braces. Now for complex cases, lingual brace treatment is an extremely diffic… CONTINUE READING

Closing Gaps With Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a well know and popular technique that we have been using for over 15 years. The process is generally minimally invasive, requires very little tooth preparation, no needles or anaesthetic and is more affordable than other cosmetic dental options such as porcelain veneers. The procedure can be used for a number of treatments including closing spaces between teeth especially front teeth.… CONTINUE READING
