Smile Transformation Using Lingual Braces

It's early in June but we could not wait to post our case of the month. As you may be aware, we believe in the least invasive techniques to create stunning smiles which look natural and healthy. After all, it is pretty obvious when a smile is false- just look at various celebrities on TV (no names mentioned!)

Our patient requested a drastic improvement on his smile using lingual braces as he did not want the brace to be visible for work reasons. The treatment was a great success and the improvement as profound. We discussed the need for teeth whitening and cosmetic bonding after treatment to enhance symmetry. Often, teeth are asymmetrical due to tooth wear, grinding at night, genetic reasons or past treatments.

Pre treatment:

Quite severe crowding with the left lateral incisor sticking out and general asymmetry
Beautifully straight teeth, treated with a full arch lingual brace. Followed by teeth whitening and cosmetic bonding.

Stage 1

After a thorough assessment, Dr Nissit Patel treated the upper arch using a full arch lingual brace. This is the only brace that is fitted behind the teeth hence it is not visible. This type of orthodontic treatment is more complex than conventional treatment and requires a high level of skill and technical expertise. There are very few dentists that offer lingual braces in London, we are proud to be one of them. The overall treatment time frame was 8 months.

Stage 2

After teeth straightening, teeth whitening was carries out using the Philips ZOOM LED system. This is an in surgery treatment which takes about 90 minutes using 6% hydroden peroxide as the bleaching agent which is activated by the LED light. We always advise using a take home kit afterwards to reach the maximum whiteness.

Stage 3

Cosmetic bonding was carried out on the lateral teeth to enhance the overall aesthetics and symmetry. This technique is another highly skilled one and one that our dentists in Fulham are accomplished at. We have treated hundreds of cases with stunning results.

Stage 4

Retention! After treatment, it is essential to hold the teeth in position. A fixed wire and removable retainer are required for life.

MI Dentistry

MI means minimally invasive. This entire process required NO drilling of natural tooth, NO needles or injections, NO pain and is far more affordable than so called 'cosmetic' treatments such as porcelain veneers.

Composite Bonding vs. Porcelain Veneers: Which is Right for Your Smile?

To answer this question, we really need to differentiate the two treatments as they are two different treatment entirely. Composite bonding is an additive process. In simple terms, we carefully sculpt composite resin over the teeth in question. This can be used to treat chipped, fractured, uneven and gappy teeth. Composite can also be used to replace old fillings on front ( or back) teeth. The great advantage of bonding includes:1. Treatment is completed in one visit; an instant smile transformation! 2. Min… CONTINUE READING

Social 6 lingual brace, whitening and bonding. The truly invisible brace

One of our favourite treatments for cosmetic teeth straightening is the Social 6 lingual brace. This brace is the truly invisible brace as it is placed on the inside of the teeth. Even though lingual braces have been around for many decades, there is little awareness of the system as the treatment in the past has been kept within the realm of specialist orthodontists and the costs have been incredibly high compared to conventional braces. Now for complex cases, lingual brace treatment is an extremely diffic… CONTINUE READING

Composite veneers vs Porcelain veneers. Which is best?

One of the most topical subjects at the moment is the debate between composite and porcelain for dental restorations. In terms of cosmetic dentistry, this equates to the use of composite veneers and porcelain veneers. It is important to note that composite veneers can either be made by a laboratory or placed free hand by the dentist in the chair. Porcelain veneers can only be made by a dental laboratory or within a dental practice that has the necessary technology such as computer aided design and a milling… CONTINUE READING
