Our case of the month for June is a Social 6 lingual brace to correct the upper front teeth. The Social 6 lingual brace is excellent for straightening the front 4 teeth, or the incisor teeth. The canine teeth are the anchors of the brace. Hence, the brace is placed on 6 teeth but can only correct the front 4 teeth.
Before
You can see here that the central teeth are overlapping and the levels are uneven. The left lateral tooth is hidden behind the left central tooth and this makes it look smaller. The right lateral tooth is ahead of the canine tooth.
After
Now the front 4 teeth are straight and the levels have improved. The Social 6 lingual brace was able to correct issues in only 4 months. The overall aesthetic improvement is marked.
Advantages Of Social 6 Lingual Braces
- Totally invisible being placed on the inside of the teeth
- Quick treatment as only 4 teeth are being corrected; 3-4 months in most cases
- Fixed brace- you do not have to remove the brace as with Invisalign
- More comfortable than a full brace
- Affordable
Disadvantages Of Social 6 Lingual Braces
- Can only correct the front 4 teeth
- Cannot correct bite issues
- Cannot correct canine teeth
- Not designed for very fine corrections
- Not designed for closing spaces above 2mm
In many cases, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages as only a cosmetic improvement is desired. If you would like to straighten your front teeth with a truly invisible brace in a short space of time, the Social 6 lingual brace could be the perfect solution.
