Dental Implant To Replace A Front Tooth That's Missing

Our case of the month for August involves a dental implant to replace a front tooth that's missing. It is well known that dental implants provide the very best method of replacing missing teeth, with extensive research over many years placing dental implants at the very top of the success stories in dentistry. Missing front teeth is not only an aesthetic issue (nobody wants a gappy smile!) but also a functional issue. The front teeth are designed to incise and tear food, with the chewing at the back. It is extremely important to have a full set of teeth to enable full function and also look great! Thankfully, dental implants can solve the problem in most cases. Just have a look at our case below:

Dental Implant Treament For A Premolar Tooth

Our case of the month for January is a dental implant case involving a premolar tooth. The tooth was lost due to infection around a failing root canal treatment. In most cases, the very best replacement for a tooth is a dental implant. After careful planning, a screw retained dental implant was placed.

What is a screw retained dental implant? Well, here are the advantages:

1. These types of crowns are screwed directly into the dental implant.

2. There is NO cement. This is important as excess cement can lead to difficulty in cleaning and cause inflammation around the implant.

3. The crown is 100% retrievable. This has a great advantages as if the crown needs to be removed for whatever reason, it is simply unscrewed.

4. They still look natural and life like! Please look at the photos to view how a screw retained implant crown looks and works:

Finding the Right Fit: Choosing a Dental Implant Dentist

Dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth. There are many dental implants to choose from and many dentists that provide and beyond. However, how do you choose a dental implant dentist? There are 3 simple questions that should be asked:

1. Level of training and experience

2. Evidence of case studies and testimonials

3. Evidence behind the proposed implant

Once this has been established, then trust within your dental implant dentist is a crucial factor. Price should never be the deciding factor in such an important decision. In our case, our answers to the above questions are:

1. Dr Nissit Patel has a wealth of experience and has trained at the most advanced institutes and universities. He has achieved the title of Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics with distinction, awarded by King's College, London.

2. Dr Nissit Patel has a large portfolio of cases to demonstrate excellence in dental implants. His patients are also happy to provide testimonials.

3. Dr Nissit Patel uses Astra implants, which is one of the most researched dental implants and evidenced based.

Bridging The Gap

Missing teeth can be an embarrassing and unsightly issue, especially at the front of the mouth. There are a number of options to replacing the space including a dental bridge.

A bridge is where the adajcent teeth are used to anchor the missing tooth. This may be an excellent option if the adjacent teeth require treatment with dental crowns to protect them or already have successful crowns which could be converted to a bridge.

The following case study demonstrates this exact scenario. A front tooth was lost due to gum disease which left a major cosmetic issue. After careful planning, a dental bridge was provided as an ideal solution to a tricky problem. Below are the before and after photographs.
