Invisalign Invisible Braces Treatment & Cost

One of the worlds most popular braces are Invisalign clear braces. Here is some information on this virtually invisible teeth straightening treatment, including cost.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a highly innovative, state of the art method to correct all manner of teeth crowding and alignment issues. They are completely removable, with no fixed metal braces. The Invisalign aligners are very comfortable, transparent and fit over your teeth.

How Does The Treatment Work?

The planning stage is very important. Initially, records are taken. This will involve taking very accurate impressions and photographs. These will be sent to the USA for analysis and creation of the 'Clincheck'. The 'Clincheck' is a 3-D video prediction of the treatment and how the final result will appear. This is vital and will allow you to appreciate how the system will work and the different stages involved. Once the 'Clincheck' has been approved, the aligners are then fabricated.

How Long Do I Have To Wear Invisalign Aligners?

The Invisalign aligners need to worn for 20-22 hours of the day. They can be removed for eating, drinking, cleaning your teeth and social occasions. This is the key factor- they must be worn for the recommended time otherwise treatment will be delayed or even unsuccessful.

Can I Eat Whatever I Like?

Yes. As the aligners are removable, you can eat your normal diet. However, as the teeth start to move they will become slightly mobile. Therefore, some crunchy or chewy foods may be best avoided.

Teeth Cleaning Whilst Using Invisalign

It is very important to clean your teeth properly during the treatment. Excellent oral health is required for any orthodontic treatment to ensure a positive end result. Our dental hygienist, Jenny Wiggins, will show you exactly how to clean your teeth properly whilst using Invisalign.

Invisalign Retention Phase After Treatment

This phase is crucial for all teeth straightening treatments. If the teeth are not retained, they will simply move back. This can be achieved using Invisalign retainers, fixed wire retainers or a combination of both. In our opinion, double retention is the gold standard for teeth retention.

What Does It Cost?

The overall cost will depend on the severity of your situation. There are 4 Invisalign products: Invisalign FULL Invisalign LITE Invisalign TEEN Invisalign i7 The prices vary from £1500 to £3995. A new smile is an investment that will last a life time and you only live once!

So why wait, call us today and start the Invisalign process. You will not be disappointed.

Emergency Dental Care 2013

Dental emergencies can be a worrying event especially if you are unable to see your dentist immediately. We have a few tips in the event of a dental emergency which will help until you can visit your dentist.

BROKEN TEETH

In the event of a broken tooth or teeth, it is important to keep the area clean. It is wise to gently clean the area and remove any debris. The use of a mouthwash such as Corsodyl can also help to keep the area clean and free from bacteria. There are some temporary filling material products available at large chemists such as Boots which can also be helpful. If the teeth are very sensitive, rubbing in sensitive tooth paste such as Colgate Pro Relief or Sensodyne Rapid Response is recommended.

GUM SWELLING

Swollen gums are a sign of infection. It is very important to keep the mouth as clean as possible with gentle tooth brushing and using mouthwashes such as Corsodyl or warm salt water. Anti biotics are usually required in the case of an infection which can only be prescribed by your dentist.

TOOTH ACHE

Tooth pain such as throbbing, tenderness on biting, a dull ache and sensitivity are common descriptions for tooth ache. There may be different reasons for the pain. If medically allowed, the use of anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen can help or paracetamol if you are unable to use ibuprofen. These medications should only be used in the short term.

WISDOM TOOTH PAIN

Pain from wisdom teeth is usually due to inflammation or infection of the surrounding gum. This is called 'pericoronitis'. It is very important to keep the area as clean as possible using gentle tooth brushing and mouthwashes such ac Corsodyl, Colgate Peroxyl or simply warm salt water. Due to the difficult access of wisdom teeth, a small headed tooth brush will be required.

LOST FILLING

If a dental filling falls out such as an amalgam (metal) filling or a white (composite) filling, clean the area gently. The use of a temporary filling material can help. Avoid biting any thing too hard or crunchy on the area and avoid the extremes of hot and cold as the are may be sensitive.

The main advice is to see your dentist as soon as possible. We have a policy of seeing emergency patients on the day, so feel free to call us in the event of a dental emergency. Our emergency telephone number is 020 7731 1162.

Cosmetic Dental Treatment Involving Front Teeth

Our case of the month for April is a wonderful cosmetic dental treatment involving front teeth. The treatment is called composite bonding. This is essentially a treatment to enhance the appearance of the teeth by naturally replacing lost tooth enamel and dentine using the most aesthetic dental materials available.

Our client had front teeth that were chipped and uneven.

Bleeding gums- a sign of gum disease

You may have seen the television adverts and large posters from Corsodyl mouthwash. These are quite striking and straight to the point. If there was blood coming out of your eye you would not ignore this. It should not be any different for bleeding gums. Bleeding gums is evidence of gum disease and a sign that something is not right. Healthy gums do NOT bleed. So what should you do?

1. See your dentist or hygienist as soon as you can. Only they will be able to diagnose the problems with the gums and advise accordingly.

2. In the meantime, it is important to keep brushing your teeth and gums effectively. This could involve using an electric tooth brush. A minimum of 2 minutes is required for effective cleaning.

3. Cleaning in between the teeth is crucial. This can be achieved with special inter dental brushes, sticks, floss and flossettes.

4. The use of mouthwash such as Corsodyl can help as a short term cure. It will reduce the level of dental plaque present and aid healing. However, long term use will cause staining of the teeth.

5. Newer devices such as the Waterpik, Philips Airfloss can also be use a useful adjunct to treatment.

The health of the gums is of paramount importance to not only oral health but also general health. This is why we offer DIRECT access to our dental hygienist. This will be available every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and even selected Saturdays. We strongly believe in prevention of disease. Direct Access to Dental Hygienists

Breaking news! The General Dental Council have just announced that direct access to dental hygienists will now be available from the 1st May. This means that the general public can see a dental hygienist without having to be referred by a dentist.

ADVANTAGES

1. This will undoubtedly improve access to dental care to those who are nervous of the dentist or feel that finance is an issue.

2. Direct access gives the patient freedom to book dental hygiene treatment when desired rather than when advised.

3. Patients who travel for work constantly or are away from their local dentist or hygienist can access a dental hygienist anywhere in the country without a referral from their dentist.

DISADVANTAGES

1. It is critical that oral health assessments and general dental examinations are undertaken by a dentist on a regular basis.

2. Direct access should not bypass the dental examination as the most important dental health screen.

3. As long as there is still a team approach to the dental care of patients, there are no real disadvantages!

DENTAL HYGIENE AT PROGRESSIVE DENTISTRY

We will now offer direct access to our patients and the general public on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday (selected dates) immediately. This will be when a dentist is present to make the referral until 1st May.

WHY DENTAL HYGIENE IS SO IMPORTANT

Good dental hygiene is the first step to good oral health. It is as simple as that. Plaque bacteria is the main causative factor for dental disease. Elimination of dental plaque and improving oral hygiene regimes will enhance prevention of disease. Prevention is, of course, better than cure! Why wait until May? Call us today and book your dental hygiene appointment.

Teeth Straightening Using Invisible Lingual Braces

Our case of the month for March involves straightening lower crowded teeth using invisible lingual braces. As we get older, our lower teeth tend to become more uneven and crooked. This can impact on dental hygiene, affect the bite and of course look unsightly!

However, there is a solution. Invisible braces placed behind the teeth are an excellent way of correcting such misaligned teeth. There is no need for the dreaded train tracks that can be seen a mile away. Lingual braces are placed on the INSIDE of the teeth and therefore no one will ever know you having your teeth straightened! Teeth whitening was also carried out and the difference is simply amazing. Our case demonstrates just this:

Very crooked lower front teeth and below straight teeth! What a difference.
