Social 6 lingual brace, whitening and bonding. The truly invisible brace

One of our favourite treatments for cosmetic teeth straightening is the Social 6 lingual brace. This brace is the truly invisible brace as it is placed on the inside of the teeth. Even though lingual braces have been around for many decades, there is little awareness of the system as the treatment in the past has been kept within the realm of specialist orthodontists and the costs have been incredibly high compared to conventional braces. Now for complex cases, lingual brace treatment is an extremely difficult and technically demanding one for dentists and patients and the costs, quite rightly, relate to this. However, for more simple cosmetic alignment, the Social 6 lingual brace is a great option for simple, quick and affordable treatment.

Whilst there are many advantages of the treatment , there are limitations which include:

1. The brace is only for cosmetic treatment of the front 4 teeth , any more complex treatment will need to be treated with Invisalign or full mouth fixed braces

2. If there is limited space between the front 6 teeth, full alignment may not be possible. However, an improvement will still be seen and if 'perfection' is not the aim, we can still provide treatment.

3. As the brace is placed on the inside of the teeth, the tongue can become quite sore rubbing against the edges of the brackets. This can affect the bite and speech also which takes time to get used to.

Our case of the month for November 2024 involves a classic one with twisted and overlapping teeth. Our client did not want Invisalign as he would not stick to the strict compliance regime and wanted something fixed and invisible.
