Crown LengtheningCrown lengthening is often required on heavily broken-down teeth to increase the height of the tooth so that a new crown can be placed. In the past, this treatment involved surgery with the use of a scalpel to cut the gum, a drill to remove bone and stitches to hold the tissue together. The area would then need to left to heal for six weeks prior to starting the crown treatment. Not anymore. The Waterlase iPlus laser allows us to carefully re contour the gum and bone tissue, expose more tooth for the crown and start the crown preparation on the same day. There is minimal bleeding, no need for any cutting, no stitches and minimal pain. The new crown is typically back within 2 weeks ready to fit. Hey presto, new tooth!
